Privacy, Terms & Sourcing

Written plainly, because it should be readable.

Privacy notice (POPIA)

Asekho Twaku Leather & Clothing collects personal information only where you give it to us: your name, email address, phone number, delivery address and whatever you tell us about the piece you want. We are the responsible party for that information under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013.

We use it to:

  • answer your enquiry and quote on a commission;
  • build, stamp and deliver a piece you have ordered;
  • keep a repair record against the piece, so we can service it years later;
  • send you the journal, if you asked for it.

We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with anyone except the courier who delivers your piece. We keep enquiry records for three years and commission and repair records for as long as the piece exists, because a repair record is only useful if it outlives the bag.

You may ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it — except where we are required to keep it for tax or CITES purposes. Write to admin@asekhotwaku.africa and we will respond within one month. You may also complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.

Terms of commission

  • No cart, no checkout. Nothing on this site takes payment. Every piece begins as a conversation and is confirmed in writing before money moves.
  • Quotes. Prices shown are a guide. The figure for your piece, and what it includes, is confirmed in writing before anything is cut.
  • Deposit. A deposit is taken on confirmation, which buys the hide, with the balance on collection or before dispatch. The amount is agreed with you before you pay it. Once a hide is cut it cannot be sold to anyone else, so a deposit stops being refundable at that point.
  • Lead times. Every piece is made to order, so the time depends on the hide and on what is already on the bench. You are given a date before you pay a deposit, and if we are going to be late you hear it from us before that date, not after it.
  • Personalisation. Ask the workshop what can be personalised on the piece you want. Anything marked with your initials or name is cut for you alone and cannot be returned or exchanged.
  • Natural variation. Hide markings, quill spacing and scale patterns differ on every piece. That is not a defect and is not grounds for return.
  • Repairs. We repair what we make, for as long as you own it. Bring the piece back and you are told what it needs and what it costs before any work starts.
  • Consumer rights. Nothing here limits your rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 68 of 2008, including the right to a piece free of manufacturing defects.

CITES & sourcing

Crocodile is farm-sourced and CITES-documented. Zebra, lizard and elephant are permit-sourced and quoted only with their paperwork. Ostrich, Nguni and springbok come from South African farms and tanneries we buy from in person, and all hides are a by-product of established agriculture — no animal is taken for its skin alone.

Every crocodile and zebra piece leaves the workshop with its documentation. Keep it with the bag: it travels with you, and internationally it is the difference between a legitimate skin and a story. If a hide cannot be accounted for on paper, we do not buy it.

If you are travelling abroad with an exotic-leather piece, check the import rules of the country you are entering before you fly. We will supply copies of your paperwork at any time.
